چکیده

Approach: The majority of fonts in use today represent glyphs as outlines formed by knots and splines. At rasterization time, these outlines are scaled to the desired size on the pixel grid and each pixel lying within the outline is turned on. Hinting significantly improves the readbility of text by giving the typographer finer control over the final appearance of each glyph beyond this simple filling algorithm. With these grid-fitting instructions, the typographer can specify rendering constraints (between knots of a glyph or between a knot and a gridline) to prevent much of the aliasing that would otherwise occur at small point sizes [2]. Though it is a tedious manual process, hinting is essential for clear rendering of glyphs. Stroke width uniformity, stroke continuity, glyph spacing: all are controlled by hinting.

A Hybrid Approach to Rendering Handwritten Characters

With the growing popularity of pen-based computers comes the need to display clear handwritten characters at small sizes on low-resolution displays. This paper describes a method for automatically constructing hinted TrueType fonts from on-line handwriting data. Hints add extra information to glyph outlines in the form of imperative constraints overriding side effects of the rasterization proce...

Individuality of Handwritten Characters

Analysis of handwritten characters (allographs) plays an important role in forensic document examination. However, so far there lacks a comprehensive and quantitative study on individuality of handwritten characters. Based on a large number of handwritten characters extracted from handwriting samples of 1000 individuals in US, the individuality of handwritten characters has been quantitatively ...

A Pretopological Approach for Handwritten Isolated Arabic Characters Recognition

We present in this paper an automatic system of handwritten isolated Arabic characters recognition. It is based on a pretopological approach. The approach is based on a criterion constructed from a pretopological pseudo-distance that allows to measure the degree of dissimilarity between the characters. On a database of 6188 handwritten isolated Arabic characters, the experimental results show t...

Generating Handwritten Chinese Characters using CycleGAN

Handwriting of Chinese has long been an important skill in East Asia. However, automatic generation of handwritten Chinese characters poses a great challenge due to the large number of characters. Various machine learning techniques have been used to recognize Chinese characters, but few works have studied the handwritten Chinese character generation problem, especially with unpaired training d...
